• January, 1971 - Northern Electric and Bell Canada merged their R&D operations to form Bell Northern Research, which became the largest privately owned industrial R&D organization in Canada.

• October 11, 1971 - Northern Telecom, Inc. is formed as the US subsidiary of the Northern Electric Company, Limited of Canada

• March 1, 1976 - Northern Electric Company, Limited officially becomes Northern Telecom Limited
